The dental assistant has responsibilities in the two areas that comprise a dental practice:


To the Patient

1. Greet the Patient

2. Escort Patient to Treatment Area

3. Seat the Patient (proper dental chair
adjustment)

4. Comfort the patient with conversation

5. Drape the patient

6. Describe the procedures to be performed

7. Emphasize the benefits of the procedure(s)
to the patient

8. Elaborate on the dentist's expertise to
perform the procedures

9. At conclusion of treatment, readjust chair, dismiss patient

 


 

To the Doctor

1. Charting (record patient's oral condition
during dental examination)

2.  X-Rays (take, develop, and mount)

3. Assist dentist in performing procedures
on patient

4. Prepare appropriate materials for procedures
to be performed

5. Sterilize instruments

6. Set up instrument trays

7. Prepare treatment rooms in compliance with infection control standards

8. Inventory dental supplies
